4 years on
4 years ago today, at the age of only 3, Anna was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. She was under active treatment for over 2 years with significant complications due to her underlying Spinal Muscular Atrophy but has now been in remission for over a year and a half.
There are still many, many challenges. Anna wakes up to 6 times a night needing her position changed or covers moved which means I am in a constant state of exhaustion, ‘normal’ childhood infections can still result in a stay in hospital (I’m writing this at the hospital as Anna was admitted yesterday with an ear, nose and throat infection complicated by poor respiratory response resulting in nausea, vomiting and dehydration), and there are still efforts being made by others to remove us from our family home.
But overall life is good. Anna lives a normal life, she goes to school most days and does the same kind of activities as any other 7 yr old. We travel as much as we can in the holidays and just generally enjoy life. Anna puts no limitations on what she can do and hopefully neither do I.
I would however like it if life could just be a little bit easier for a while. Perhaps a bit more sleep and a few less challenges. X
